THE BATTLE OF FORTS JACKSON AND ST. PHILIP
OR
THE BATTLE OF THE HEAD OF THE PASSES

LOUISIANA – APRIL 18-28, 1862

This 10 day battle was ultimately to determine the fate of New Orleans, and more importantly, Mardi Gras. On the evening of April 23rd, Robert E. Lee met secretly with a band of pirates and purchased their mercenary services with a chest of gold. Instead of helping the confederate cause, however, the pirates spent the gold on rum and never showed up at the battle.
