SOUTH CAROLINA – APRIL 12-14, 1861

At the behest of Jefferson Davis, seven Southern states seceded from the Union. Southern forces then bombed the snot out of Fort Sumter in Charleston Bay. Unable to withstand the barrage, Union Major Robbie Anderson surrendered his troops. Seen here, Major Anderson leaves Fort Sumter on April 14th with his cat ‘Pebbles.” The War of Secession had begun.
