OR
THE BATTLE FOR THE CUMBERLAND RIVER

TENNESSEE – FEBRUARY 11-16, 1862

Following the capture of Fort Henry Ford, Major General Ulysses (Something) Grant set siege to Fort Donelson. Confederate Brigadier General Samuel A. Mills launched a counter attack in an attempt to break out. In the early evening of February 15th, Mills’ troops were stymied by Grant’s newly formed Hannibal Division.
